The third edition of Science in the Citadel is a one-day Science extravaganza, taking place within the historic walls of the atmospheric Cittadella in Victoria. We are aiming to provide a fun and stimulating experience for visitors of all ages in order to get people talking about science, engaging with its many strands and appreciating the breadth of research, creativity and innovation taking place on the Maltese islands.

Although it is modelled on the annual Science in the City, held in Valletta every September, this day will be firmly Gozitan in flavour, with displays relevant to our lives here, including items on the island’s biodiversity, geology, agriculture, seas and skies as well as items highlighting the science and engineering inherent in the Citadel itself and its museums. Our interactive Science Trail will take you around most of the features and spectacular vistas of the fortress effortlessly blending the past with the leading edge science and technology of the future, demonstrating how Science is, and always has been, relevant to our daily lives.

TriGozo will be hosting its first Sprint Triathlon on 1st May 2019 in the beautiful village of Marsalforn, Gozo in collaboration with Malta Triathlon Federation.

This event is open to triathletes and relay teams for the swim, bike and run. The format of the race will be draft legal. In the case of relays, the team shall be composed of one swimmer, one cyclist and one runner.

Adults Race distances consist of:
750m swim
20km bike
5km run

A Duathlon race for children and youths from 6 to 16 years will also be held on the day. Also open to relay teams for the run and bike.

Participants will be divided into 4 categories:

CAT 1: those born in 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010
CAT 2: those born in 2009, 2008
CAT 3: those born in 2007, 2006
CAT 4: those born in 2005, 2004, 2003

Duathlon race distances per category:

CAT 1: 400m run, 1.5km cycle, 200m run
CAT 2: 1.2km run, 4km cycle, 400m run
CAT 3: 1.6km run, 6km cycle, 600m run
CAT 4: 2km run, 8km cycle, 800m run

Our perception is often based on what we hear, see or are told.We are not always interested in finding out the truth before we decide.

In this exhibition, I have explored general perceptions to show that what we think of people, characters or other worldly beings, can be very different from the true person or their purpose.

The subjects I have chosen can be seen by some as Saintly, while others see them as quite the opposite. They have been, or are being judged by their appearance, their actions, by stories told or for
their vocations.

The exhibition seeks to ask the question of the viewers perception of the subject, whilst giving an impression of them to reflect, or in some cases, deflect, from the truth of their true story.

Scalpel Art Explained

Taking an image, be it a photograph the artist has taken or one he found, the artist draws the image, choosing what he wants to cut out, and more importantly what he wants to leave behind. Then, reversing the image, the paper is cut. Each piece therefore is hand cut and totally unique.

The feature filmmaking debut from writer-director Lukas Dhont, GIRL is an extraordinarily moving coming-of-age tale about identity and the journey to becoming who you’re meant to be.

Determined 15-year-old Lara (an astonishing performance from newcomer Victor Polster) is a young woman who is fiercely committed to becoming a professional ballerina. She throws herself into this quest at a new school, but finds the usual frustrations and challenges of adolescence are heightened as her body does not bend to easily to the strict ballet discipline because she was born a boy.

Though supported by her family, Lara’s adolescent frustrations and impatience are heightened as she prepares for gender reassignment surgery, pushing her body to its limits. Based on empowering real-life experiences, the award-winning GIRL is a powerful and sensitively told story about the nuances of growing up transgender and the struggle that can motivate or define that process.

European champions Dimitri Asmanov and Nenad Maxims will lead an intensive two day course in Motocross at Ta’ Xhajma Motocross track in Gozo. The programme will include on-track riding techniques and analysis to off-the bike preparations such as nutrition and diet advice along with mental and physical preparation techniques. The changes to your riding after just one session can be dramatic.

Classes will take place on Saturday 30th March where there will be a full 6hr session. This will be followed by a 4 hour session on Sunday, 31st March.
